Marathon training is not just about building strong muscles & joints. Its about building endurance in your legs and lungs so that you can run for hours on end with minimal fatigue. Ideally, to improve your chances at completing a marathon, you'd want to run over 30 miles each week. If you're lucky enough to have access to a running track or road nearby (and if you don't live in the middle of nowhere), then that's the best way to approach your training. If not, then finding a way to get out there and jog will do great things for your cardiovascular health - but remember that it's going to be hard work.
